Das Machen boosted her broodmare value when leading home a Magic Millions trifecta in the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Das Machen (4m Flying Spur – Lili Marlene by Kaaptive Edition) won a Kilmore maiden in January 2009 and added city wins at Caulfield (2) and Moonee Valley (2) before opening her black-type account in Adelaide.
The Mick Price trained mare cruised home to put four lengths between the placegetters Time Matters (Gilded Time) and A Wee Dram (Half Hennessy).
Das Machen has earned over $240,000 for connections. Vinery Stud sold her for $54,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions National weanling sale and she changed hands again for $60,000 at the 2007 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.
Pacific Bloodstock syndicator Mark Hoare bought her from Gervase Stud owner Dr Chris Gales in Perth. “I thought she was the filly of the sale over there,” Hoare said. “I was pretty chuffed to get her for $60,000 – especially as Gervase had done a great job preparing her for the sale.
“People said we’re pinching the South Australian prizemoney and taking it back to Victoria. But I will be back for the Adelaide Magic Million next week.”
Das Machen is the latest black-type winner for Arrowfield champion Flying Spur. He has now sired 80 individual stakes winners of 149 stakes races.
The Matrice Stakes winner is a younger half-sister to Sydney sprinter miler Test Edition (Testa Rossa). Their Husson half-brother made $28,000 at the 2011 Inglis Classic yearling sale.
