Coolmore sires Rock Easter Sale

Coolmore shuttlers Rock Of Gibraltar and Fastnet Rock weren’t the only winners when they doubled up in juvenile events at Flemington and Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Both their winners are Inglis graduates and have half-sisters catalogued for this year’s Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Golden Archer (2c Rock Of Gibraltar – Viennetta by Pins) has been one of Melbourne’s most consistent youngsters this season and he made it four wins in five starts in taking the Listed Streets Ice Cream Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

The first five home hit the line in a blanket finish with Golden Archer nosing out Kid Kobe (Snippetson), Fortune Of War (General Nediym), Retsina (Redoute’s Choice) and Vatican (God’s Own).

Moody will nominate him for the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday, March 18.  “It was tradesman-like win,” Moody admitted at Flemington.  “He wasn’t a Blue Diamond colt and I’m not going to make any big plans at this stage.”

Rock Of Gibraltar got him from G2 Ellerslie winner Viennetta.  Owner-breeder Kevin Taylor has a More Than Ready half-sister to Golden Archer that Sefton Park has nominated for the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Golden Archer cost $80,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale and has now accrued over $245,000 for connections.

Trainer John O’Shea has more ambitious plans for Foxwedge.  The Fastnet Rock colt put himself in the frame for this season’s juvenile riches after a dominant win in the Clarry Conners Plate at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Foxwedge (2c Fastnet Rock – Forest Native by Forest Wildcat) was promoted the third line of betting for the Golden Slipper alongside Satin Shoes after a brilliant first-up victory on Saturday.  He had won on debut at Rosehill in November.

Foxwedge and G2 Silver Slipper winner Satin Shoes (Flying Spur) are both owned by Dr Edmund Bateman.  They are quoted at $11 for the Golden Slipper behind Sepoy ($2.50) and Karuta Queen ($7.50).

The Warwick Farm winner was an expensive $925,000 buy for Bateman at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He was catalogued by Luskin Park Stud and the same vendor will offer his sister at this year’s Easter yearling sale.

“The best is yet to come from Foxwedge,” O’Shea promised.  “He’s going to be seen to advantage when he works it all out.  Hopefully it’s in a fast-run Golden Slipper!”
