A 6% rise in averages and a 84% clearance rate underpinned strong trade on Day 1 of the 2014 Inglis Sydney Classic Summer yearling sale on Sunday.

A total of 189 lots changed hands headed by the Not A Single Doubt – Foxy filly (Lot 173) that was purchased by Kitchwin Hills for $105,000.

She was followed by three colts that made $100,000 – Street Sense – Angora colt (Lot 26) bought by Muskoka Farm; Teofilo – Ave Amina colt (Lot 39) to Diamond Lodge and the Myboycharlie – Centaine Haze colt (Lot 84) that will be trained by Ron Quinton.

Muskoka Farm ended Day 1 as the leading buyer having snapped up four colts for $270,000.  All will be pin-hooked into the Inglis Sydney Ready 2 Race Sale in October.

“We had great success at the 2013 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale,” Muskoka owner Wendy Lapointe said.  “We’ve come back on a mission to purchase types that we think can make a good return this year.

“John Hutchinson, Rick Worthington and myself are working together to secure a specific type on a strict budget and we are delighted with today’s four purchases.”

The average price on Day 1 was up 6% to $34,804.  The median was a strong $30,000.

Emirates Park, which sold Group 3 winner Boomwaa at the Classic Summer Book last year, finished as the leading vendor by aggregate selling 25 lots for $518,000.
