The updates keep coming for Mungrup Stud’s draft at the Perth Magic Millions next month.
Champion stallion Danehill Express bobbed up with another maiden winner at Bunbury on Thursday and then sired an Ascot double on the weekend.
Zedfire Express (3f Danehill Express – Zedfire by Zedrich) was never headed on debut in the south-west. She was an impressive winner of the Legends Bar & Bistro Maiden (1000m) and it also boosted the value of her Oratorio (Aus) half-sister catalogued as Lot 3 at the Magic Millions on February 18.
The filly is being prepped by Queenslea Park’s Aaron Morton on behalf of Mungrup Stud Clients.
Her dam Zedfire won 7 races up to 1000 metres in Perth and her Danehill Express four year-old Zedfire won twice at Belmont earlier this season. The mare has a Red Hot Choice colt on the ground and was bred back to Hala Bek in November.
Danehill Express increased his strike-rate to 21 winners of 30 races when Lenience and Rusty Peaches were successful on Saturday.
Rusty Peaches is named in memory of Troy Gard and his daughter Olivia. Troy lived in Bunbury but died suddenly several years ago and his daughter succumbed to brain cancer when she was just four years old. Her rocking horse was called Rusty Peaches.
Manager Mark Lewis and some of the part-owners were Troy’s mates and they decided to name the horse in their honour.
Danehill Express has sired the winners of over $800,000 this season and that more than doubles his nearest rival among third-season sires based in Western Australia.
He ran out a comfortable winner for the Sunspeed freshman title from Husson Lightning and Vital Equine in 2011-12 and then increased the margin for the second-season premiership with earnings of $1.14 million in 2012-13.
Mungrup and its clients have 15 Danehill Express yearlings nominated for the Perth Magic Millions on February 18 and 19. They will parade for prospective buyers at the Belmont Park sales complex on Friday, February 14 at 5.30pm.
