Day 1 Magic Millions HIT Sale – Average rises 7% on Gold Coast

Widden Stud freshman Dreamscape topped the opening session of the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

Trainer John Hawkes paid $310,000 to buy his colt who is out of Rory’s Jester winner Jesta Sweetie.

There was intense interest in the colt after he set a record breeze-up time of 9.85s for 200m at the Gold Coast earlier this month.  “He’s just a natural athlete,” Hawkes said.  “He’s a lovely balanced individual and let’s just hope he can run as quick over 1200 metres as he was over 200 metres.”

“He’s had a month off since his breeze up so he will head to Sydney and go into work and take it from there.”

During the session some 52 lots were sold at a gross of $2.35 million.  The average price was up 7% to $45,346.  The clearance rate dropped 6 points to 61%.

“It’s extra satisfying to sell a horse in a two-year-old sale for in excess of $300,000,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox noted.  “It was a good old fashioned bidding war and the colt was bought by one of Australia’s best judges in John Hawkes.

“To see the average climb from last year’s opening session is good, however, the clearance rate is poor and is systematic of two-year-old sales the world over.”

Day 2 of the HIT Sale will be held from 10am on Wednesday.
