Day 1 NZB Ready to Run Sale – Casino Prince colt heads to Hong Kong

A Casino Prince colt highlighted Day 1 of the NZB Ready to Run 2YO Sale at Karaka on Tuesday.  He sold for $300,000 to Hong Kong trainer Dennis Yip.

The session-topper is from the Grand Lodge mare Ausbred Chic and was the sole entry from Jon and Karin Hogan’s JK Farm.  He had breezed up in a speedy 10:23 seconds.

Yip also purchased the third top priced lot with a Towkay gelding from G2 winner Dancing Daze (Dance Floor) for $240,000.  “In the last few years there have been many good horses that have come up to Hong Kong from the Ready to Run Sale,” Yip said.  “I have been lucky to get the two that I wanted.  Both of these horses have the qualities that I look for, which are first the conformation and then the action of the gallop.”

Lyndhurst Farm’s Dubawi – Magic Tori colt was the second highest price of the day at $250,000.  He was purchased by Michael Stedman Bloodstock.  Lyndhurst is on target to be the leading vendor for the sixth year in a row with 9 sold for an average of $142,111 on Day 1.

New Zealand-based sire Darci Brahma (Danehill) ended Day 1 as the leading sire by average (for three or more sold) with five sold for an average of $159,000.  Waikato Stud’s champion sire O’Reilly was next best with 6 changing hands for an average of $112,917.

Day 1 saw 111 lots sold for $8.06 million at an average of $72,640.  The clearance rate is 67%.  “There were some quiet patches earlier in the day and buyers are being discerning as you would expect, but this afternoon it was very strong,” NZB Co-Managing Director Petrea Vela said.  “To have our figures for the day in line with last year’s record sale is a great result in the current climate and a credit to the vendors.”
