Hunter Valley hat-trick in NZ 1000 Guineas

Rollout the Carpet completed a hat-trick of Group 1 victories for Hunter Valley stallions in the NZ 1000 Guineas on Saturday.

Born and raised at Lincoln Farm, the Holy Roman Emperor filly follows Planet Rock (Fastnet Rock) and King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice) in the fillies feature at Riccarton.

The previous winner by an Australian based sire was Tycoon Lil (Last Tycoon) in 1997.

Rollout the Carpet (3f Holy Roman Emperor – Out Of Egypt by Red Ransom) is a homebred for NZ Bloodstock manager John Cameron.  Along with his wife Jackie, he races the filly in partnership with William Fan, Matthew & Elizabeth Oram and Moon Fai Tung.

“John boards Out Of Egypt here and sends her foals to New Zealand after we wean them,” Lincoln Farm owner Nick Posa said.  “He offered Rollout the Carpet at the 2011 NZ Karaka Sale but kept her when she didn’t make a $40,000 reserve.”

Since the Guineas winner, Posa has sent her youngster half-sisters by Henrythenavigator and Tale Of The Cat across the Tasman and the mare is now in foal to Commands.  Their dam Out Of Egypt is a USA bred sister to G2 E P Taylor winner Wandering Star (Red Ransom).

“The Guineas is a highly prestigious race and we are thrilled to have won it,” Cameron said.  “It’s not easy to lead and then hold off a field of top horses at Riccarton but she showed tremendous determination and a great will to win.  “It was a great ride by Mark Du Plessis and full credit to trainers Jeff McVean and Emma-Lee Browne for getting the filly there at her peak.”

Rollout the Carpet has several options ahead and connections are considering the G1 Levin Classic at Otaki on Friday, November 30.

Meanwhile, Posa has catalogued four yearlings for the Inglis Classic Sale in January.  There are two by resident sire Ready’s Image and one each by Choisir and Testa Rossa.
