Arqana reported much better results during Day 2 of its August yearling sale at Deauville on Saturday.  After an opening session that saw the average dip 27%, the second improved to €122,719 which was 1% up on the average from 2009.

“It was reassuring to see the market hold up after Friday,” Arqana managing director Olivier Delloye said.  “There were some nice lots that made good money, 12 sold for above €200,000 – the same figure as last year.  There was a good diversity of buyers including those from Japan and Qatar.

“We were satisfied with the average and median, and it was interesting to see that the top price was by a first crop stallion.

Sir Robert Ogden paid top price of  €400,000 for a filly by Darley shuttler Teofilo.  She is out of the Tremolino mare Delicieuse Lady and is a half-sister to French Derby winner Blue Canari.  “She has a wonderful pedigree and she’s a nice moving filly,” Ogden’s racing manager Barry Simpson said.  “We picked her out a few days ago.”

Fellow Darley sire Shamardal was second on the leader-board when his colt from Genevale made €360,000 to the bid of Darley advisor John Ferguson.
