Competition for better class yearlings heated up on Day 2 of the 2011 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale on Monday with four horses fetching $100,000 or more. More than $5.2 million traded during the second session.
Colts by General Nediym and Fastnet Rock shared honours for the top price on Modnay with both fetching $130,000. Fresh from picking up to winning cheques on Magic Millions raceday, Bert Veira secured Edinglassie Stud’s General Nediym colt from the Woodman mare Shannon Wood. The colt is a half-brother to G1 placed Miss Lily Rose and stakes placed Road To Athens from the family of G1 Canterbury Guineas and Underwood Stakes winner Sharscay.
Hawkes Racing won out for Brooklyn Lodge’s Fastnet Rock colt from Razzia, the full-sister to G1 winners Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
A new mark for a filly at this year’s sale was also reached when Les Bridge – whose marvellous mare Hot Danish won a barrier trial stylishly earlier in the day – went to $120,000 for a daughter of Excellent Art. The filly was offered by Wimmera Park Stud and is from the G3 winning mare Starry Way, who already boasts five winners to her credit at stud.
A Not A Single Doubt colt from the draft of Bell River Thoroughbreds was the other youngster to bring six figures when selling for $100,000.
The overall sale average now sits at $33,464 for the 266 lots sold for a gross tally of $8.9 million. “Once again there was very good competition from a diverse buying bench which saw the clearance rate exceed 80%.”Inglis director Jonathan D‘Arcy said.
“It has been a very even sale for both buyers and vendors so far with the figures slightly up on last year which is pleasing given the catalogue is 10% larger.”
Horses passed in during the first two days’ trade are still available for sale via the Make an Offer service.
