Hong Kong focus on Flannery Flyer

Rising star Captain Sweet is making rapid progress through the Hong Kong ranks and the value of his yearling half-sister by Flying Pegasus is also increasing win by win.

Captain Sweet (3g Fastnet Rock – Strega by Lake Coniston) scored for the fifth time in a row when he defeated Flying Blue (Fastnet Rock) in the Bailey Handicap at Sha Tin on Sunday.  “He is a very relaxed horse and has got a bright future,” trainer John Moore said.  “He’s helping himself in that he’s not winning by big margins.  He’s not going up fast in the handicaps and that’s why he’s been able to win five in a row.”

Moore has designs on the G1 Classic Mile in twelve months’ time for the gelding.  That’s good news for Avoca Park breeder Michael Flannery who has his Flying Pegasus half-sister catalogued for the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.

Flannery is based in Western Australia’s south-west at Harvey and he’s prepping 10 lots for the Magic Millions..  The Flying Pegasus – Strega filly is catalogued as Lot 211 and will parade on Thursday afternoon, February 10.  Stega has also foaled the Testa Rossa winners Testa Jesta, Aurelio and Testa’s Big Lassie.

The Avoca Park draft has six yearlings by Touchstone Farm sire Flying Pegasus who is already off the mark in Perth with brilliant filly Absolute Cracker.

Captain Sweet was a $60,000 purchase for the Hong Kong Jockey Club at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He was subsequently on-sold to long-time Moore client Jack Wong
Flannery purchased Strega in foal to Testa Rossa for $50,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast National Sale.  That Testa filly made $80,000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.  Her Flying Pegasus filly was followed by a Flying Pegasus colt and she was bred back to him again at Touchstone Farm last year.
