Day 2 Goffs November Sale – Cream of the crop by Alfred Nobel

A first crop colt by Lynward Park shuttler Alfred Nobel topped Day 2 trade at the Goffs Foal Sale on Tuesday.

His colt from Cafe Creme (Catrail) was offered by Herbertstown House Stud and made 65,000 euros to the bid of Camas Park.  The session-topper is from an unraced half-sister to G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Seazun (Zieten).

Cafe Creme has already foaled winners by Verglas and Bertolini.  Her current yearling is a filly by Haatef.

The colt was the first born by Alfred Nobel when he arrived at Lodge Park Stud in Co. Kilkenny on January 20.  “He’s a really good strong colt with plenty of scope and quality,” Lodge Park’s Damian Burns said shortly after the birth.  “We are delighted with him and we bred not only Alfred Nobel and Cafe Creme but also both their dams and grand-dams.”

Alfred Nobel is owned jointly by Coolmore and Perth Racing chairman Ted van Heemst.  A son of Danehill Dancer, he was a G1 winner of the 2009 Phoenix Stakes emulating his own sire who won the same race in 1995.

Alfred Nobel covered an initial book of 105 mares at Coolmore’s Irish headquarters in 2011.  “He gets good looking foals,” Coolmore’s Cathal Murphy said.  “Once breeders heard about the quality of his youngsters, then saw them, they wanted to send a mare.”

His pedigree has also received a fillip this year with close relation New Approach siring three stakes winners at Royal Ascot.  Another member of his immediate family – Was – won the G1 English Oaks.

Alfred Nobel (Ire) is currently standing his second season at Lynward Park in Western Australia at $7,150 (inc gst) service fee.

A Zebedee – Keenes Royale colt also made 65,000 euros when offered by Catherinestown Stud on Day 2 of the Goffs Foal Sale.  He was bought by Rathmoyle Export and is out of a winning daughter of G1 Prix de l’Opera winner Kinnaird.

Thriving trade throughout Day 2 saw a significant 20% increase in the average to 13,078 euros while the clearance rate improved 12 points to 76%.  The Goffs November Foal Sale continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
