It was a bright day at Newmarket in more ways than one on Monday as the first-class Tyreel Stud dispersal highlighted the Inglis Broodmare and Weanling Sale.
“The first two days of the sale have been terrific,” Inglis bloodstock director Jonathan D’Arcy said. “There is certainly plenty of optimism in the market as we’ve seen new players enter while existing ones show their intentions to keep growing.”
The Tyreel Stud unreserved dispersal of 22 mares which averaged $168,545 was a feature of the day’s auction, but it was Group 3 winner Crafty Irna offered by Widden Stud that topped the day at $610,000.
Crafty Ira was sold carrying a foal by Widden sire Sebring. Other mares in foal to Sebring sold for $340,000, $310,000, $260,000 and $130,000 during the Select Broodmare Session.
A total of $12.89 million was traded on 204 Select Session Broodmares and the clearance rate over the day was a strong 82%.
Tyreel Stud provided four of the five top lots on Monday; Crossyourheart, Mid Summer Music, Brothers Dream and San Cristobel.
Crossyourheart was sold to Steve Brem for $480,000 carrying a full relation to the Commands yearling filly that sold to Shadwell Australasia for $600,000 at last month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Group 1 winner Mid Summer Music was sold in foal to All Too Hard for $375,000 to Bruce Perry Bloodstock.
Charge Forward’s half-sister Brothers Dream was knocked down to George Altomonte of Corumbene Stud for $370,000. The Redoute’s Choice mare was carrying a positive pregnancy test to Sepoy.
Fastnet Rock mare San Cristobel was also sold for $370,000 when offered by Tyreel Stud.
Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy secured the top priced weanling on Sunday when he paid $450,000 for a Fastnet Rock colt from Delta Girl. Gabbedy went to $360,000 today to purchase Delta Girl when offered in foal to Pierro.
Belmont Bloodstock also bought Group 2 winner Cute Emily in foal to Sebring for $340,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud.
Day 3 of the Inglis Broodmare and Weanling Sale commences on Tuesday at 10:00am.
