A $1.50 million Street Cry – Star on High colt topped the leader-board at the Inglis Easter yearling sale on Wednesday when knocked down to Emirates Park and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa.
The colt is from an unraced FuPeg half-sister to Peeping Fawn (Danehill) who was a Group 1 winner of the Irish Oaks, Yorkshire Oaks, Nassau Stakes and Pretty Polly Stakes in 2007.
His dam is also a half-sister to French Group 1 winner Thewayyouare (Kingmambo) who shuttles from Coolmore Stud to Windsor Park in NZ.
Emirates Park won the G1 Golden Slipper with Mossfun (Mossman) on Saturday and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa landed the LR Derby Trial with Ilitshe (Fastnet Rock) hours later in South Africa.
The session-topper was offered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds on behalf of Victorian breeder Rick Jamieson.
Darley sire Street Cry should have topped Day 2 trade with his colt from champion mare Typhoon Tracy. Bidding reached $2.10 million but he was passed-in well below a reserve of $3 million.
“I’m willing to keep half and maybe someone can do a deal,” owner John Hutchins told AAP. “To go overseas, the price is $3 million which is a cheap horse for over there.”
Inglis managing director Mark Webster said he had been surprised by the asking price for Typhoon Tracy’s one and only foal. “We found out the reserve as it went into the ring,” he said. “It’s up to the market to set the price and the market said $2.10 million.”
Turnover across the first two days of the Easter Sale is down 10% to $68.11 million and the average has declined 15% to $256,071.
The median remains steady at $200,000 and the clearance rate has improved 6 points to 81%.
The third and final day of the Easter Sale starts at 10:30am on Thursday. The remaining Session 1 lots (369 to 437) will be offered first before Session 2 (Lots 435 to 550) and Lauriston Farm’s supplementary entries (Lots 551 to 555).
