Sunspeed breeder Neil Randall will disperse stock from Greenfields Lodge among 157 lots catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale this Sunday.
Greenfields has been home to well-bred stallions Carpanetto (Peintre Celebre) and Pitleco (Exceed And Excel) in recent years and they feature prominently in the unreserved dispersal of 21 lots from the historic Capel nursery.
Greenfields was a leading West Australian stud for decades when Rowley Roberts owned the property. The legendary horseman began prepping yearlings a century ago when the Perth Sale was conducted on St Georges Terrace!
Randall’s dispersal includes two-year-olds by Viscount, Due Sasso, God’s Own and Danehill Express plus yearlings by Pitleco (3), Carpanetto (3) and Viscount. His mares for sale have been covered by Pitleco (5), Hala Bek (2), Danehill Express (2) and Dick Turpin.
Carpanetto was a juvenile winner at the Curragh and he returned the following year to finish second to champion stayer Vinnie Roe in the LR Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown. Transferred to Bart Cummings, he went amiss prior to the 2004 Melbourne Cup and was subsequently purchased to stand at Greenfields.
Pitleco was a $310,000 purchase by Anthony Cummings on behalf of Patinack Farm at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale. Unfortunately, a leg injury prevented him from racing.
Exceed And Excel got him from Twiglet who is also the dam of Group 1 racehorse and Wattle Brae Stud sire Easy Rocking (Barathea) plus Champion Hong Kong sprinter Fairy King Prawn (Danehill).
Greenfields Lodge, which is located on 100 hectares between the Bussell Hwy and Indian Ocean, is also on the market. It was last advertised for sale in February 2011 for $3.50 million.
