Day 3 Keeneland September Sale – Indian Charlie filly Takes Charge

An overall auction-high of $2.20 million was paid for an Indian Charlie half-sister to G1 winners Take Charge Indy (A.P. Indy) and Will Take Charge (Unbridled’s Song) at the Keeneland September yearling sale on Wednesday.

She climbed to the top of the leader-board on Day 3 bettering the $1.50 million paid for a Medaglia d’Oro filly from Day 1.

Whisper Hill Farm bought Wednesday’s star yearling from the draft of Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency.  Take Charge Indy won the 2012 G1 Florida Derby and Will Take Charge earned his biggest win to date in the G1 Travers Stakes on August 24.

All three were produced by the G1 winning Take Charge Lady (Dehere) who earned signature wins in two renewals of the G1 Spinster Stakes as well as the G1 Ashland Stakes.

On Wednesday, 135 yearlings sold for $41.89 million at an average of $310,296.

BERNARDINI
Wednesday’s draft of 4 lots sold for $1.03 million to take Benardini’s record after three sessions to 11 lots for $4.28 million.  Topping his Day 3 list was a $475k colt from Denali Stud as agent for Craig and Holly Bandoroff.  Catalogued as Lot 509, he’s from unraced Storm Cat mare Stormy Welcome who is out of a half-sister to A.P. Indy.

HARD SPUN
Darley sire had 2 fillies change hands with Lot 608 making $130K from Anderson Farms.  She is the first foal from Wicked Diva (Jump Start), a Listed winner of Saratoga’s Dew Stakes.

HENRYTHENAVIGATOR
Sole sale was a $200k half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner Hightail (Mineshaft).  Second-dam Fleet Renee (Seattle Slew) was a G1 winner of the Mother Goose and Ashland Stakes.  The buyer was K K Eishindo.

MEDAGLIA D’ORO
Darley shuttler topped Day 1 with a $1.50 million filly and he raised the ante with a half-brother to 2010 G1 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (Maria’s Mon) that sold to Spendthrift and Stonestreet Stables for $1.70 million.  Listed as Lot 523, he traces back to champion filly Numbered Account (Buckpasser).

MORE THAN READY
Vinery champion was back with two fillies that sold for $280k and $190k.  The top lot is a half-sister to Canadian Champion Grass Horse Grand Adventure (Grand Slam).  She was offered by Summerfield’s Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck as Lot 594.

STREET CRY
One to sell, a $425k half-brother to G1 La Brea St winner Dearest Trickski (Proudest Romeo).  Listed as Lot 576 from Taylor Made Sales Agency, he was purchased by agent Ben Glass.
