An outstanding colt by Vinery champion More Than Ready took the honours during Day 4 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Saturday night.
A massive crowd flocked to the complex to see the next generation of racetrack star go under the hammer following on from a multi-million dollar meeting across the road at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
A strong session saw the average price for the sale grow to over $144,000 and the sale gross round out at over $75 million. All figures were up on last year’s sale.
Young Sydney trainer Bryce Heys went to $600,000 to secure the More Than Ready – Polaway colt. He is from a stakes performed Giant’s Causeway daughter of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
“Physically, he was as an impressive colt as there was on the sale ground,” Heys said. “And he’s got the pedigree to back it up.”
Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse was busy again with agent James Harron and she snapped up the Northern Meteor – Ms Bowie colt from Musk Creek Farm for $525,000.
Waterhouse purchased Pierro from Musk Creek owner David Kobritz for $230,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions. He went on to earn $4.53 million and was then syndicated to stand at Coolmore Stud.
“The market was very strong and it was also very consistent,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “Buyers were willing to participate across all levels of the market and that created a magical vibe. It’s been extremely rewarding for Magic Millions staff to conduct a sale of this nature.”
Book 1 for the first four session saw 521 lots sell at an 87 % clearance rate – 4 points ahead of the 2013 Sale. The aggregate was up $7.40 million to $75.08 million and the average price lifted 5.8% to $144,1112.
