Denmark Derby winner by Danroad

New Zealand based stallion Danroad sired the winner of the Denmark Derby in Copenhagen on Sunday.

Darcy (3c Danroad – Calypso Run by Lycius) is trained by Francisco Castro and he held off stablemate Summertime (Binary File) to score by a head over 2400m.  Third home three lengths away was Zen Zansai Zaid (Dubai Destination) ahead of the favourite Buzz Lightyear (High Chaparral).

Darcy (Den) has won 5 of his 8 starts and was fourth behind The Kicker (Binary File) in the Danish 2000 Guineas on May 20.

Danroad (Danehill – Strawberry Girl by Strawberry Road) won the G2 Challenge Stakes at Trentham before retiring to Highview Stud.  He shuttled to Rathmuck Stud in Ireland for three seasons between 2006 and 2008. Worldwide, there have been 75 winners of 169 races headed by G1 T J Smith Classic winner Rockdale and NZ G2 winner Down The Road.

Darcy is a half-brother to winners by Darshaan, Dr Fong, Statue of Liberty and Elusive City.  Another half-sister foaled last week’s G3 Royal Ascot Jersey Stakes winner Ishvana (Holy Roman Emperor).

Danroad stands for a $5,000 service fee at Highview Stud.  The Hamilton based nursery is also home to Bullbars, Align and Sufficient.
