South Australian based stallion Good Journey sired his first black-type winner in North America on Monday when Thirtyfirststreet was successful in the LR Lone Star Derby.

Good Journey (Nureyev) stands for an $11,000 service fee at Cornerstone Stud.  He was a G1 winner of the Atto Mile at Woodbine and originally stood at Ealing Park in Victoria from 2003 until 2006.  

Good Journey returned to Australia in 2008 but was stationed at Lindsay Park after Sam Hayes bought a half-share in the stallion from Californian breeder Rich Sulpizio.

His Victorian bred progeny includes G1 WATC Derby winner Grand Journey and G2 MVRC Alister Clark Stakes winner Sound Journey as part of a worldwide winning strike-rate of 57%.

Thirtyfirststreet (3c Good Journey – Avian by Sky Classic) repelled Close Ally (Giant’s Causeway) by a neck after a rousing duel in the Texas classic over 1700m.  The chestnut’s prior stakes victory came in the California Breeders’ Champion Stakes at Santa Anita in December.

The Derby is normally a Group 3 contest but it was downgraded to a Listed event after being transferred to Lone Star’s dirt track!

Cornerstone was formerly known as Lindsay Park.  Owners Sam Hayes and Darren Thomas purchased the famous South Australian nursery from David Hayes in July 2008 and rebranded it last month.

Apart from Good Journey, the Cornerstone roster includes Hussonet ($25,000), Reaan ($9,900), Shrewd Rhythm ($6,050), Barely a Moment ($6,050), De Beers ($4,950) and Face Value (FOA).
