Design thriving for Doudle

Swiss Design is thriving in a new environment and that was evident when he flew down the outside rail to win at Gawler on Wednesday.

A son of Greta West Stud sire Master Of Design, he was previously with Lloyd Kennewell before transferring to former jumps jockey Travis Doudle in March. A Morphettville winner this time last year, he handled the wet conditions for a three-quarter length victory in the Kellermeister Wines Hcp (1224m).

“Lloyd told me Swiss Design had ability but wasn’t the sort of horse that appreciated being trained out of a box,” Doudle said. “Getting him to settle is the key and he relaxed in the run today, so much so, he just about dropped off the pack before Todd (Pannell) gave him a niggle.

“He did look a 1000m specialist early on but that win opens up some avenues. He really ran through the line and there’s no reason why he won’t get out further.

“It’s great to train a winner for a few existing owners and a few new ones.  He’ll be a nice horse and a lot of fun.”

Swiss Design was bred and is part-owned by South Australian businessman Luke Koumi. He also races Master Of Design sprinter Senor Gaudi who was last seen finishing third in the $100,000 Magic Millions Classic (1100m) at Ballarat.

His Wednesday winner is a half-brother to Adelaide stakes performer El Magico. Their dam Swiss Vault (Secret Savings) also earned black-type at Morphettville when placed behind Leone Chiara in a G3 Irwin Stakes.

Master Of Design has sired 10 individual winners in the last month including his speedy mare Creativity. She just missed more black-type in the G3 Proud Miss Stakes last Saturday after giving a great sight in front at Morphettville.
