Million minus change for More Than Ready

Another big-ticket More Than Ready colt has topped the first-session of the Fasig-Tipton 2YO Sale in Maryland.

The Vinery legend’s colt from Embur’s Song (Unbridled’s Song) was knocked down to agent Ben McElroy for $750,000 (AUD 994,000) on Monday.  He was acting for a client of Southern California trainer Simon Callaghan.

That price-tag bettered the More Than Ready 2yo colt that made €525,000 (AUD 830,640) at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale on May 12.  He is destined for Hong Kong.

“More Than Ready is obviously a very proven stallion,” Callaghan said.  “This colt is a great-looker with a great attitude and I thought his breeze was pretty exceptional.”

Bred in Florida by Bridlewood Farm, the colt (pictured) is from Canada’s 2011 Champion Mare Embur’s Song and he breezed 200m in 10.20s which was the second-fastest time at the distance.

“I think they got a bargain,” vendor Dean De Renzo chuckled.  “Of course, you always want more money for a More Than Ready.  But it works because we get to watch him race right here in the United States.”

More Than Ready has a quality catalogue of foals, yearlings and mares entered for the Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.  His weanling colt from Moonee Valley winner You Can Dance (Redoute’s Choice) is the first of them to parade as Lot 12 on Thursday morning.

Vinery stands More Than Ready for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee.
