Dick Cruwys has a trophy cabinet fit to burst but he will find room for the silverware won by Pimpala Secret in the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas on Saturday.
Cruwys raced Natural Destiny to numerous feature wins with trainer Gordon Yorke a few years ago and he has tapped into another potential top-liner with Marc Connors.
“We took him to Bathurst for a confidence booster last week because he had been bludging,” Connors said at Hawkesbury. “He got the job done up there and he turned the corner here even though he was stepping up a lot in grade.”
Pimpala Secret (4g Monashee Mountain – Secret Dancer by General Nediym) camped on the speed and never the left the rails to scored a determined victory over Victorian visitor Speediness (Testa Rossa) in the Guineas.
The winner cost just $3,500 as a foal from Willowbend Stud at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions National Sale. Cruwys stands Natural Destiny at Willowbend and the former star grey sprinter will have his first two year-old racing later this year.
Monashee Mountain was originally based at Willowbend before transferring to Racetree three years ago. The best of his 180 Australian winners has been 2006 G1 QTC Stradbroke Handicap winner La Montagna.
Pimpala Secret is the fourth foal from unraced mare Secret Dancer. Her only other winner has been Charged (Legal Opinion) who took 14 starts to break through at Goondiwindi for leading owner Glenn Morton.
Second dam Regent Finale (Archregent) is a sister to G2 STC Magic Night Stakes winner Romantica.
