Doncaster mission for Monton

Monton showed tremendous courage and fight for a Group 2 victory in the ATC Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Despite sitting three-wide, the Ron Quinton trained gelding travelled well before storming away to a tough victory over Kontiki Park and King Lionheart.

Monton (5g Catbird – Dynamic Flyer by Marauding) went into the Villiers off a Listed victory in the ATC Festival Stakes at Rosehill.  He also won the G2 Hobartville Stakes last year among 6 wins in 20 starts for earnings of $463,000.

“The horse has gone the right way,” trainer Ron Quinton said.  “He didn’t have a lot of joy in the run but was good enough to overcome it.  He will go for short break and come back for the Doncaster.”

Monton is by deceased Yarraman Park stallion Catbird and his dam Dynamic Flyer is a daughter of G1 VATC One Thousand Guineas winner Bianco Flyer (Godswalk).  Owner David Lamond bought him from the Brooklyn Lodge draft at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $80,000.

Brooklyn Lodge has 7 lots at the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale in January.  The Aberdeen based nursery will be among a dozen new vendors bringing drafts to the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale beginning on February 27.
