Trainer Steve O’Dea will set Geblitz for a winter campaign after her impressive victory at Doomben on Wednesday. The Brisbane based trainer believes she will be suited in a race like the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich in June.
Geblitz (4m Testa Rossa – Aim For Gold by End Sweep) stormed home to record her fourth victory from just nine starts. She had two lengths to spare over Unica Bahaya (Piccolo) and Marine Gardens (Markane).
Amarina Farm sold her to Mick Price for $20,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions but Geblitz never started for the Caulfield trainer. “I got her off Mick and she showed ability from the first day,” O’Dea said. “She’s not very big and normally can only stand up to about three or four runs before going off.”
Geblitz is a younger half sister to Sydney based stakes performer Madibagold (Johannesburg). He is trained by David Payne and was last seen finishing fourth to Bold Glance in the Magic Millions Cup on January 15.
Their dam Aim For Gold was G1 placed behind Hasna in the 2003 AJC Champagne Stakes. She is a half-sister to the stakes winners Walking Or Dancing (Falvelon) and Irongail (Canny Lad).
Geblitz raced up to 1600m last year but O’Dea think she’s best when she kept fresh to around 1400m. “I’ve never really rated her a stakes mare before but she might measure up as a late season four year-old,” he said. “I’ll give her a chance against Saturday opposition next start and hopefully she will go well enough to plan a winter campaign.”
O’Dea completed a winning double at Doomben on Wednesday when Andre’s Choice broke her maiden. He is by recently deceased Chatswood Stud sire Rakti and is a half-brother to dual Moonee Valley stakes winner Strategic Image.
