Keepin’ The Dream caused a $41 boilover to win the $125,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup on Thursday. The NZ bred gelding is currently being prepared by Pat Webster while previous trainers Jim and Greg Lee serve a suspension.
Keepin’ the Dream (6g Keeper – Irish Nassie by Nassipour) scored by a neck after making a prolonged run. “I’ve only had the horse for five minutes,” Webster said. “He was well weighted but we went in on a wing and a prayer.”
Last season, the son of Cambridge Stud’s Keeper took out both the G3 Hawkesbury Cup and Listed Scone Cup-LR. He’s also been placed second in the G3 Newcastle Gold Cup and Listed Wyong Cup.
Keepin’ the Dream is from the family of Kiwi stayer Castletown who was a G1 winner of the Wellington Cup (3), NZ Derby, Auckland Cup and a Caulfield Stakes.
Keeper (Danehill) has sired 170 winners at a 64% strike-rate. The Gosford Cup win was his third black-type result this season following Keep The Peace (G1 Mudgway Stakes) and Matost (LR Pukekohe Karaka Classic).
