Shadwell filly tops Day 11 at Keeneland

Trainer Wesley Ward purchased Group performer Iqbaal for $70,000 to top Day 11 of the Keeneland November Sale on Thursday.

Iqbaal is by Medaglia d’Oro out of the Storm Cat mare Queen’s Lady.  The Shadwell Farm filly was trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and earned black-type when third in the G3 Pegasus Stakes.

Ward stunned Royal Ascot last year when he trained the stakes winners Strike the Tiger (Listed Windsor Castle Stakes) and Jealous Again (G2 Queen Mary Stakes).

He also prepared former USA sprinter Cannonball who is now with Gai Waterhouse.  His best run out here in six starts was a second to Neeson in the G3 Tramway Hcp at Randwick in September.

A colt by Sharp Humor sold for $50,000 to bring the day’s second-highest price.  He is out of the Delineator mare Anotherbusride from the family of G1 Oaks Leaf Stakes winner Tali’sluckybusride.

Keeneland sold 225 horses for $1.66 million on Thursday for an average of $7,422.  That was marginally down ($211) from the 2009 sale.

The November Sale continues through to Saturday, November 20.  The Sale is streamed live at www.keeneland.com.
