Hardy galloper Keepin’ The Dream landed his fourth stakes win when successful in the G3 Newcastle Newmarket Hcp on Thursday.
The son of Cambridge Stud’s Keeper had already been credited with black-type victories in the G3 Hawkesbury Cup, LR Scone Cup and LR Gosford Cup.
Keepin’ the Dream (6g Keeper – Irish Nassie by Nassipour) has 51kg in the Doncaster and trainers Jim and Greg Lee hope Thursday’s win will be enough to qualify for the G1 Mile at Randwick next month.
He stormed down the outside to score by a head for owner Fred Khedoori who has been one of the stable’s long-term clients. “We have trained for Fred for more than 30 years,” Greg Lee said. “Keepin’ the Dream revert back to staying races after the autumn carnival.”
Keepin’ the Dream is from the family of Kiwi stayer Castletown who was a G1 winner of the Wellington Cup (3), NZ Derby, Auckland Cup and a Caulfield Stakes.
Keeper (Danehill) stands at Cambridge for a $15,000 fee. His chief earner Keep The Peace has banked over $305,000 this season with G1 victories in the Mudgway Stakes and Otaki Classic. He is also the sire of G1 winners Miss Keepsake (Queensland Oaks), Insouciant (NZ 1000 Guineas), Keepa Cruisin (Levin Classic) and Linky Dink (QTC T J Smith Classic).
Midnight Oil could be next G1 winner for Keeper when she starts in the NZ Oaks at Trentham on Saturday. The Paul Duncan trained filly is a last-start winner of the G3 Lowland Stakes at Hastings.
