May’s Dream scored a posthumous Group 1 victory for former Wimmera breeder Worrall Dunn in the Australasian Oaks (2000m) on Saturday.

Dunn died in Horsham aged 78 last November.

May’s Dream (3f New Approach – She’s Archie by Archway) had won the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill in June last year and she has lifted to another level this season.  The Darren Weir trained filly was placed in the G2 Wakeful Stakes and G3 Schweppervescence Stakes leading up to the Group 1 breakthrough at Morphettville on Saturday.

Dunn bred and raced She’s Archie and she gave Weir his first Group 1 success in the 2002 South Australian Oaks.  “The owners have had horses with me since I first got my trainer’s licence,” he said.  “It’s a big thrill as they’ve been terrific supporters of me and are a great bunch of owners.”

Weir set May’s Dream for the Australasian Oaks after the Melbourne spring carnival.  “She’s a good horse and is a lot like her mother.  “Hopefully, she can now come back in the spring and win another good race.”

Among May’s Dream part-owners are Dunn’s wife Lorraine and their daughters Celeste, Melissa and Simone.  She’s Archie has a 2yo filly named Rainbow Bel (Bel Esprit) and she was bred back to Manhattan Rain last year.

May’s Dream was the second-leg of a stakes winning double for New Approach at Morphettville.  The former Darley Victoria shuttler also sired Gamblin’ Guru to a Group 3 victory in the Chairman’s Stakes.
