Winning Princess by Snitzel

Snitzel sired his 22nd stakes winner when Estonian Princess scored a last-stride victory in the G3 Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

She completed a back-type double for the Arrowfield Stud stallion after Hot Snitzel also saluted at Group 3 level in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200m).

The Randwick results were enough to keep Snitzel ($8.62 million) in touch with his premiership-leading sire Redoute’s Choice ($9.06 million).  And he leads the stakes winning table with 13 individual back-type winner of 19 stakes races.

Estonian Princess (3f Snitzel – Meet My Sis by Prized) is a half-sister to Sandown Guineas winner Schilling and was a $65,000 buy for Glenn and Viive Williams at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

They also raced 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen, a $1.80 million earner by Arrowfield sire Not A Single Doubt.

Estonian Princess broke her maiden at Randwick on New Year’s Day and was then runner-up to Snitzel filly Sweet Idea in the LR Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on the Gold Coast.  “We went to the Adrian Knox Stakes last time but she didn’t run the 2000m so we dropped her back in distance,” trainer Scott Aspery said on Saturday.  “It looks like seven furlongs is just right for her.”

Hot Snitzel notched his sixth strike at black-type level in the Hall Mark Stakes.
“He ran in the Golden Slipper three years ago and he is the only one out of that whole field who is still racing,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.  “He keeps backing up.  He is a good little horse who always gives his best. He will head up to Queensland for the BTC Cup.”

Ryan has turned out a remarkable 24 winners by his former stable star Snitzel.

Hot Snitzel (5g Snitzel – Flames Of Paris by Blushing Groom) was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $60,000 at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale and has now banked $885,350.

“He’s the type of horse that’s a good advertisement for anyone that wants to own a horse,” winning jockey Hugh Bowman said.  “He just keeps coming back and getting the job done.  It’s a pleasure to ride a horse like him.”

His Flames of Paris is an unraced relative of European Group 1 winners Park Appeal, Cape Cross, Diktat & Alydaress among others, and was imported in 2002 from Japan to Australia where she had four foals for the Arrowfield – Jungle Pocket partnership.

Arrowfield has increased Snitzel’s fee to $71,500 (inc gst) this year.
