Dubai an option for Military Move

New Zealand Derby winner Military Move (NZ) looks destined for more black-type after an impressive victory in the Peninsula Golden Jubilee Challenge Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Military Move (Volksraad) has taken some time to adjust to Hong Kong but has demonstrated an affinity for the Sha Tin all-weather surface, winning two races and finishing second from just three starts.

That’s given trainer John Moore something to contemplate.  “I guess we could think about Dubai if we want an artificial surface,” Moore said.  “But the Tapeta surface over there isn’t really like the all-weather in Hong Kong.  Maybe it’s an option.  I’ll have to talk to the owner about it but at least I’m pleased that the horse is winning races.

“He came here highly-rated from winning a New Zealand Derby and it initially looked like he was going to be a bit disappointing.”

Military Move was originally trained by Shaun Ritchie for Hong Kong based owner Steven Kit Sing Lo.  He was a $110,000 buy from Amity Lodge at 2008 NZ Bloodstock 2YO Ready to Run Sale at Karaka.  Windsor Park Stud had originally sold the youngster for $75,000 at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Select yearling sale.

His dam All Night Party was trained by Graeme Rogerson and won on both sides of the Tasman.  She is a half-sister to Catalan Opening (Kaapstad), a G1 winner of the VRC Chrysler Stakes and AJC Doncaster Mile.

Volksraad has 18 yearlings on offer at the 2011 NZB Yearling Sales at the Premier (3), Select (14) and Festival (1) sessions.
