Dream duo for Blacker

Longford trainer Troy Blacker will target a series of weight-for-age races for his promising sprinter-miler Dream Flyer following the gelding’s impressive first-up win in Hobart.

Dream Flyer (5g Savoire Vivre – Unamah by Top Avenger) produced a powerful finish under Steven Maskiell to score by over a length in the Glenorchy City Council Hcp (1200m) on Sunday.

It was the gelding’s first outing since finishing down the track in the LR George Adams Tatt’s Plate (1600m) on Launceston Cup Day in February.

The five-year-old has returned a more mature and settled galloper as evidenced by his first-up victory.

“We had him primed for the Newmarket a fortnight ago but he didn’t get a run,” trainer Troy Blacker said.  “The only worry was the wide barrier but there was plenty of speed on and Steve let him settle and get into a rhythm.

“He’s got a great turn of foot and was always going to pick them up in the straight.”

Blacker has etched out a program that includes the upcoming weight-for-age The Tote Stakes.  He will also be aimed at the Kevin Sharkie Stakes along with his older half-brother and stablemate Dream Pedlar.

Dream Pedlar (West Quest) was named Tasmanian Horse of the Year for 2010-11.  He won the 2010 Kevin Sharkie Stakes in Hobart and also set a weight carrying record of 61kg to win the Devonport Cup (1800m) in January.

Those victories came after a successful mainland campaign where he won the LR Bendigo Cup and Ballarat Gold Nugget.  He returned this spring to claims the G3 JRA Cup at Moonee Valley in September.

Dream Pedlar is by Grenville Stud champion West Quest but was born and raised at Armidale Stud.

Dream Flyer is by Armidale sire Savoire Vivre.  He was the second leg of a running double for the son of Sadler’s Wells after Los Skybo won the Glenorchy RSL Hcp.

Dream Pedlar and Dream Flyer from the LR Tasmanian One Thousand Guineas winner Unamah.  Part-owner and breeder Michael Mee races them with Robert Nightingale.  Mee’s mare has a yearling colt by West Quest and she foaled a colt by Savoire Vivre on November 12.
