Darley shuttler Dubawi headlined the Arqana’s 2yo Breeze-Up Sale on Saturday when his colt from Lady Bex (Sadler’s Wells) sold for a record 280,000 euros. Mocklershill consigned the sale topper and Paul Nataf signed the sale sheet.
The colt had been initially purchased for just 26,000 guineas at Tattersalls last October. His dam Lady Bex an unraced full sister to the Listed winners Ballarat (Ire) and Hijaz (Ire) and a half-sister to G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris winner Crimson Quest (Rainbow Quest) and Listed winner Savethisdanceforme (Danehill Dancer).
The Arqana Sale, held in conjunction with the French Guineas, was a resounding success. The average of 41,649 euros was up by 20% while the 30,000 euros median increased by 7%. The clearance rate stood at a highly respectable 76%.
Paul Basquin’s Haras du Saubouas, responsible for 2008 topper Medaglia d’Oro filly, had another high-profile day’s selling. Its top sale resulted in a handsome profit on the Mizzen Mast grey colt bought for 52,000 euros at Deauville last year. The half-brother to stakes performers Maramba (Hussonet) and Minnesota (Silver Hawk) was knocked down to Jean-Claude Rouget for 170,000 euros.
