Ducati delivers for Blackfriars

Black Ducati continued an eventful week for Scenic Lodge when she climbed off the canvas in the Heineken Hcp (1300m) at Belmont.

The Blackfriars mare had won easily on debut at Bunbury in March and returned from a spell for another first-up victory although the margin was only a half-length on Wednesday.  She was caught deep early before slotting in and grinding away against a wall of horseflesh at the furlong.

“She wobbled around corner and it was a good ride from Chris (Parnham) to get her over the line,” trainer Michael Lane said.  “She’s has her fair share of problems and is still learning but I think she’s ready for a Saturday race now.”

Black Ducati races with a big white blaze for a syndicate managed by Canal Enterprises owner Peter Capararo.  He bred her and older half-brother Spin Da Wheels (Hard Spun) who was a Listed winner of the 2014 Challenge Stakes.

Their dam Miss Ducati (Speed Week) foaled a filly by Demerit last Saturday.

The Scenic Lodge foal-watch staff was also busy on Saturday night delivering three foals within 30 minutes and then another two more before dawn.  They did an amazing job in freezing cold conditions and five foals in one night is a record for Eliza, Emily and the team at Muchea.
