Duchess doubles up for Lucky Unicorn

Durable mare Duchessofcambridge won two races in space of four days over the Christmas break for her sire Lucky Unicorn.

Duchessofcambridge (4m Lucky Unicorn – Game Duchess by Montjeu) carried 55.5kg over 1800m at Pukekura on December 23 and then doubled up shouldering 59.5kg over 2000m at the same venue on December 27.

The daughter of Westbury Park sire Lucky Unicorn won her maiden by four lengths for trainer Roger James in May before transferring to Kevin Myers last month.

She is unbeaten since the move to Wanganui and is ready to graduate through the grades.  The Sir Patrick Hogan bred mare is a younger half-sister to Flemington stakes performer Nordic Duke (Viking Ruler).

Second dam Mazarine (Zabeel) is a three-quarter-sister to Group 1 winners Octagonal, Don Eduardo and Mouawad.

Bart Cummings weighed in with another Lucky Unicorn winner when Prospector saluted at Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Prospector (4g Lucky Unicorn – Special Diamond by Zabeel) is from the same Eight Carat family as Duchessofcambridge.  He welcomed the step up to 2300 metres third time out this season for the master trainer and his major client Dato Tan Chin Nam.

Lucky Unicorn (Redoute’s Choice) stood at Cambridge Stud until transferring to Westbury Park in Western Australia earlier this year.

Westbury Park owner Phil Ibbotson and Cambridge Stud’s Sir Patrick Hogan will offer four New Zealand bred yearlings by Lucky Unicorn at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions.
