Duporth retires to Kitchwin Hills

Kitchwin Hills has announced Red Ransom four year-old Duporth will stand at its Scone stud this year.

Duporth (4h Red Ransom – Staging by Success Express) was retired by owners Peter and Wendy Moran after finishing sixth behind Hot Danish in last Saturday’s G2 Canterbury Stakes at Rosehill.  He will join exciting young Danehill stallion Dane Shadow on the Kitchwin Hills roster.

Stud manager Mick Malone has been on the lookout for the right newcomer and Duporth has been on the radar since he won the G2 Golden Rose in the spring of 2008.

Duporth went on to earn himself a place at the leading Hunter Valley stud by winning the G1 BTC Cup at Doomben during the 2009 winter carnival.  It was a typical powerful finish that took him to victory over a crack field of older rivals including the champion sprinter Apache Cat.

The handsome son of Red Ransom has been touted is the best young sire prospect in the country.  He is a powerfully built individual and is free of Danehill blood.  Other Red Ransom stakes winners retiring to stud this year include All American (Arrowfield Stud), Onemorenomore (Vinery) and Red Element (Glenlogan Park).

Duporth is a half-brother to Vinery’s G1 winning stallion Excites (Danewin) and last start G2 Phar Lap Stakes winner Tickets (Redoute’s Choice).

Their dam Staging was one of the best fillies of her generation winning at G2 level in the AJC Light Fingers Stakes, Surround Stakes, Emancipation Stakes and BTC Carlton Cup.

Red Ransom’s Arrowfield based son Charge Forward has given the sireline a tremendous boost in the last 18 months.  He was Australia’s champion first-season sire in 2008-09 courtesy of outstanding Makybe filly Headway.  And it would be premature to write off the Golden Slipper chances of his second-crop filly Solar Charged on the strength of one below par run.

Apart from the G1 BTC Cup and G2 Golden Rose, Duporth was successful in the G3 Up And Coming Stakes and retires with earnings of $1.14 million.
