Blueblood filly Shannara lived up to her pedigree when she won the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap (1300m) by two lengths on Wednesday. The Darley filly is a younger sister to G1 winners Lonhro and Niello.
Shannara (3f Octagonal – Shadea by Straight Strike) won in class-record time clocking 1.15.47s for 1300 metres. “She has been very impressive this time in,” trainer Peter Snowden said. “She is still immature and probably 12 months away but I think she will be worth the wait.”
Shannara is the last foal produced by Shadea who died in July 2007. “The family keeps coming on and on,” Snowden continued. “And now with Lonhro doing so well at stud, it’s the best family ever.”
The Randwick win increased Lonhro’s Australian winner tally to 103. He passed the century mark when Reckons won at Kembla Grange on March 13.
