Alexandra Dreaming has entered pre-post markets at $26 for the G1 Thousand Guineas in the wake of a dominant debut at Sandown.

The Written Tycoon filly camped outside the leader and then lengthened to a significant victory in the MRC Foundation Plate (1200m) on Wednesday. Trainer Henry Dwyer had tipped his hand by paying a late-entry fee for the $500,000 Thousand Guineas on October 13.

It also vindicated the decision by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) to buy Alexandra Dreaming as a foal for $100,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Sale. “She’s a Group class filly but wasn’t even named when the nominations closed for the classics,” Dwyer said. “The plan was to win today and then look at boosting her rating.”

Dwyer mentioned the LR Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield as a likely target on September 22. “We’ve always had a good opinion of her but she’s had a few setbacks. We’ve only been able to get two soft jump-outs into her before coming here.”

Alexandra Dreaming’s dam Umaquest (Umatilla) won a Ballarat maiden as a spring 3yo and graduated to a Listed victory in the Chester Manifold Stakes the following season. She’s already foaled the stakes-performed fillies Yattarna (Exceed And Excel) and Fromparis Withlove (Smart Missile).

Musk Creek Farm has catalogued Umaquest’s 2yo colt by Not A Single Doubt for the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale at Riverside Stables two days after the Thousand Guineas. And Stonehouse Thoroughbreds has entered her Headwater yearling colt for the Inglis Premier Sale in March.

Sheamus Mills Bloodstock was also in the frame with another impressive 3yo first-starter at Pakenham on Sunday.

He bought Yulong Earth (More Than Ready) as a foal for $34,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Sale and the Lindsay Park colt won like a horse going places for Yulong Investments owner Zhang Yuesheng.

His dam Translate (Love A Dane) won a Matron Stakes Gr.3 at Flemington for Lindsay Park, however, he was a bargain for “non x-ray believers” according to a post-race tweet from SMB.
