A Sunline Memorial will be unveiled at Ellerslie during Auckland Cup Week on Wednesday, March 7.

The Auckland Racing Club announced the mighty mare’s memorial will be situated beside her grave just outside the entrance to the stables at Ellerslie Racecourse.  The bronze statue has been two years in the making.

Sunline (NZ) won 32 races including 13 at Group 1 level for earnings over NZ$14.5 million.  The daughter of Desert Sun was named NZ Horse of the Year on four occasions and Australian Horse of the Year three times.

Acclaimed as Australasia’s greatest mile – middle distance mare of all time, Sunline was put down in 2009 after losing a long-standing battle with laminitis.
