Millford Thoroughbreds made the early running at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale on Monday morning with a Fastnet Rock yearling that made $250,000 to the bid of Anthony Cummings.
Catalogued as Lot 33, the Fastnet Rock – Litowinda colt was by far the most expensive youngster to change hands after the first 100 lots went through sale ring at Oaklands Junction. His dam is a King’s Best half-sister to stakes winners Si Senor and Bello Signor.
Millford studmaster Richard Kerry was adamant the Fastnet Rock colt was the pick of his 15 yearlings. “We had a heap of interest in him,” Kerry said. “He is a ripping sort of colt and all the good judges showed an interest in him.”
Millford sold Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker (Reset) for $120,000 at the 2009 Melbourne Premier.
Next best on the leader-board in the early stages of the four-day sale was a Sebring – Mrs Petrov colt on account of Supreme Thoroughbreds. He was knocked down to Caulfield trainer Colin Little for $140,000.
The clearance rate was running at just under 77% after Lot 100, a Sebring colt prepared by Northern Lodge, was passed-in for just $10,000.
