Encosta de Lago’s Irish bred colt Mutahadee died suddenly in Tipperary on Monday. He collapsed after a morning gallop at Tommy Stack’s Thomastown Castle stables.
Mutahadee (4c Encosta de Lago – Mosaique Bleue by Shirley Heights) won on debut at Dundalk in November 2010 and returned at three to be G3 placed in the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh.
Transferred to the Gulf this year, he won first-up in the Dubai Trophy at Meydan and was then placed in the G1 Jebel Hatta and G1 Dubai Duty Free.
Mutahadee (Ire) was an 80,000 euros buy for Sheikh Mohammad bin Khalifa at the 2009 Goffs yearling sale. He is a half-brother to G1 Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup winner Subtle Power (Sadler’s Wells).
Coolmore reverse-shuttled Encosta de Lago to its Irish headquarters in March 2007. His northern service fee wasn’t publicised but it was in the region of 40,000 euros.
Returning to Australia, Encosta de Lago was the first stallion confirmed with Equine Influenza at the Eastern Creek quarantine facility in August 2007. He has remained within the confines of Coolmore’s Hunter Valley base ever since.
Encosta de Lago’s sole northern bred crop are four year-olds and include 22 winners from 39 named foals.
