English Derby winner dies in Libya

English Derby winner Kris Kin has died in a paddock accident in Libya.  The 12 year-old son of Kris S had only arrived at Al Shaab Stud in July.

Kris Kin was trained by Sir Michael Stoute for Saheed Suhail and won a Doncaster maiden in October of his sole juvenile campaign.  Returning at three, he won the G3 Chester Dee Stakes before a great ride from Kieren Fallon got him home in the 2003 English Derby.

After retiring to Derrinstown Stud in 2004, he gradually fell from favour at Morristown Lattin Stud in Ireland and Azienda Agricola Mandorli in Italy before a final port of call in North Africa.

From his first five crops, Kris Kin has sired 33 winners at a 47% strike-rate topped by stakes winners Altair Star (Germany) and Cima On Fly (Italy).
