Lonhro filly Euryale has given her sire a share of the lead at the top of the Australian stakes winners’ table for 2010-11.

Appropriately, Euryale is a Darley homebred and she helped Lonhro join Redoute’s Choice with 12 stakes winners in Australia this season.

Euryale (2f Lonhro – Meduesa by Fusaichi Pegasus) sat in the box seat behind front-runner Panhandle and then split runners in the straight to score in a driving finish to the Listed VRC Gibson Carmichael Stakes (1600m) at Flemington

Euryale should be unbeaten.  She defeated subsequent stakes winner Manhattan Maid on debut at Sandown on April 13 and was then a tragedy beaten by The New Boy at Flemington on May 7.  

“She’s a professional and it opens doors for her next time in,” trainer Peter Snowden said.  “She’s going to the paddock now and the G1 Thousand Guineas will definitely come under consideration in the spring.”

Lonhro has emerged as a serious threat to Redoute’s Choice in the prestigious stakes winners category this season.  He sired new Listed winners Tampiko (GCTC Prime Ministers Cup) and Benfica (BRC Hampden Stakes) earlier this month before striking for the third time in as many Saturdays at Flemington.

Euryale’s dam Meduesa was runner-up at Canterbury twice but couldn’t find the line in five starts.  Second dam Danglissa (Danzero) was a G1 winner of the AJC Flight Stakes.

Meduesa foaled another Lonhro filly in 2009 and she has been named Medea.  Darley sold Meduesa for $41,000 to Bridsan Bloodstock in March 2010 but the foal she was carrying by Henny Hughes died.  The mare missed to Domesday last year.
