Vinery Stud freshman Excites sired his second winner when promising colt Black Jag scored a narrow victory in the Coastal Power Boats Maiden Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Black Jag (2c Excites – I’m A Showoff by Thunder Gulch) is a striking black colt and he sat off the speed before sprinting to a strong win over Outback Prince filly Outback Fortune. He is trained by Peter Hulbert and was a $110,000 graduate from the 2010 Magic Millions National HIT Sale at the Gold Coast.
Excites was a G1 winner of the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and he returned the following spring to finish second to Wonderful World in the G1 Caulfield Guineas. He is the only son of Danewin at stud and is a half-brother to Duporth (G1 BTC Cup) and Tickets (G2 STC Pago Pago Stakes).
His first runner Amber’s Crown won on debut at the Gold Coast for Steven O’Dea in November.
Black Jag’s dam I’m A Showoff has foaled minor winner Superstar Girl (General Nediym) and after Black Jag foaled colts by Lonhro and Kheleyf. Second-dam A Star Is Born (Ahonoora) is a half-sister to Encores, Irradiate, Sir Laurence and the dam of Pillaging.
