Jimmy Choux confirmed his rating as the best three-year-old male miler in New Zealand after dominating his rivals in the G3 Wellington Stakes on Saturday.
Jimmy Choux (3c Thorn Park – Cierzo by Centaine) has now won 7 of his 14 starts and his priors included the G1 2000 Guineas, G2 Hawkes Bay Guineas and G2 Great Northern Guineas before his latest victory at Trentham
His only failure came in the G1 Levin Classic at Otaki in November when he pulled up with a heart fibrillation. Trainer John Bary and his veterinary advisers couldn’t find any ongoing issues with the colt and he maintained a unbeaten record at Trentham yesterday.
Jimmy Choux defeated Cellarmaster (Dubawi) to take the G2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes on the same day last year.
Twelve months later he surged clear under hands and heels from Jonathan Riddell to defeat Jetset Lad (Elusive City and He’s Remarkable (Pentire). “He’s a real character around the stable,” Hastings based trainer John Bary revealed. “He’s quite intelligent and toys with other horses on the training track.”
Jimmy Choux is a homebred for Richard and Liz Wood of Chouxmaani Investments. His sire Thorn Park was a G1 winner of the Stradbroke Hcp and he stands at Windsor Park Stud for a fee of $13,500 (+ gst). His dam Cierzo is a daughter of LR Castletown Stakes winner Gale (Wild Rampage).
The Woods also raced G1 stayer Count Chivas (Lord Ballina). The tough gelding won a Sydney Cup and South Australian Derby and was also runner-up in a Melbourne Cup (behind Saintly), Mercedes Classic (Octagonal) and Caulfield Cup (Doriemus).
