Vinery sire Star Turn can improve his black-type strike-rate at the Scone Cup meeting on Saturday with Saltaire and Overriding and he can close the card with in-form mare Everyone’s A Star’s in the $160,000 Gulliver’s Hcp (1100m).
Saltaire didn’t figure after a slow getaway second-up at Randwick last month and she can make amends in the Denise’s Joy Stakes (LR, 1100m). And if Overriding reproduces her recent Muswellbrook Cup win, she can play a part in the Dark Jewel Classic (Gr.3, 1400m) for owner-trainer Nathan Doyle.
Meanwhile, trainer Marc Chevalier reports Everyone’s A Star has thrived since her last-start Rosehill Midway victory. She had doubled up at Randwick in March and the only loss in her last four starts was a midfield finish when rising several classes for the ATC Sapphire Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) on April 13.
Everyone’s A Star (4m Star Turn – Pietra by Rock Of Gibraltar) was caught wide and way back in the field off some quick sectionals at Rosehill before storming home to defeat Broadway Bouncer (Kermadec) and Sumo Star (Maurice). “That was her 10th start this prep and she is the stable superstar with our team at Hawkesbury,” Chevalier said. “She goes on the walker two to three days a week and I gallop her on the Polytrack leading up to raceday.”
Everyone’s A Star is raced by Dr Ulysses Crosson with a syndicate that includes Jeff Englebrecht who had trained her before retiring in 2022. Her dam Pietra is four-from-four at stud and the Star Turn – Rock Of Gibraltar cross has a 75% strike-rate including promising 3yo Grange Rock Star who was sidelined following a Canterbury win for trainer Robert Quinn last season.
Star Turn’s Hong Kong stats are in the same league with new winners like Beauty Destiny. When the Frankie Lor-trained import broke through last month, he improved the Vinery sire’s strike-rate to 70%.
Beauty Destiny (4g Star Turn – Cocoexcel by Exceed And Excel) was registered as Spitzer in Australia and was exported after winning a Rosehill barrier trial for Team Hawkes. He won the French May Trophy (1200m) at Happy Valley by a half-length from Lyrical Motion (Not A Single Doubt) despite a wayward finish under Zac Purton.
“He spotted the infield screen so I gave him one with the whip and he shifted out quite quickly,” the champion jockey reported. “I thought at one stage he was going to run completely off the track, but I managed to straighten him up and hang on.”
His dam Cocoexcel made $30,000 when changing hands at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale on May 10. She was purchased by Kia Ora Stud in foal to Captivant.
Star Turn will stand for $27,500 (inc GST) again this year with payment on a live foal. For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
