Rising star Thespian Waters will be set for mainland assignments following his fourth win on the bounce in the Tasmanian Autumn Classic (1400m) at Elwick on Sunday.
The 3yo son of Vinery sire Headwater was caught wide after drawing the outside barrier but class told in the straight when he powered home from near last to defeat Es And Es (Sepoy) and Blonde Star (Starcraft).
“He’s amazing and has matured throughout this preparation,” jockey-trainer Siggy Carr said. “He feels like a new horse every time I ride him on raceday. His paddock is just outside my bedroom window and I don’t let him get out of sight, that’s for sure.”
Thespian Waters (3g Headwater – Theatre Fan by Theatrical) will go for a break after beginning his latest campaign with an Elwick maiden victory back in November. Sunday’s victory sent his earnings to over $170,000 from 5 wins in 15 starts. “He’s growing up all the time, and has handled the work sensationally,” Carr continued. “We’re so excited with what’s to come!”
Carr is based at Oatlands, 50km north of Hobart, and she prepares Thespian Waters for a syndicate managed by Gary Richards. He was bred by Baramul Stud and had earned black-type on debut when runner-up in the TRC Elwick Stakes (LR, 1000m) as a summer 2yo in January 2023.
His USA-bred dam Theatre Fan is a full-sister to 2010 Saratoga Riskaverse Stakes (LR, 1600m) winner Queen Of The Creek (Theatrical). She’s also a three-quarter sister to the dam of Big Brown (Boundary) who shuttled to Vinery for four southern books after winning the 2008 Kentucky Derby (Gr.1, 2000m).
Her NZ-bred 2yo Baltic Blond (Russian Revolution) won a Hawkesbury barrier trial for Matt Vella last month and her weanling is a colt by Redwood (GB).
Vinery stands Headwater (Exceed And Excel) for a $9,900 (inc GST) service fee with payment on a live foal. For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
