Falbrav gelding Distant Memories will be set for the prestigious Cambridgeshire Hcp at Newmarket in October after his stylish victory at Ripon on Tuesday.
Distant Memories (4g Falbrav – Amathia by Darshaan) had won the Racing Festival Hcp at Ripon in July and returned to the North Yorkshire venue to score a seven length victory in the City Of Ripon Stakes over 2000m yesterday.
“He should make a Listed horse but we won’t rush him,” trainer Tom Tate told Sporting Life. “When they are developing you have got to look after them. He will go up in the ratings now and we will have to think about the Cambridgeshire.”
Distant Memories is from a half-sister to 2005 UAE 2000 Guineas winner Stagelight (Montjeu) and was a 75,000 euros buy at Goffs in October 2007.
Falbrav was a Group 1 star the world over with feature wins in the Japan Cup, Prix d’ Ispahan, Juddmonte International, Hong Kong Cup and Gran Premio di Milano.
He is by Encosta de Lago’s sire Fairy King and shuttled from Japan to Arrowfield Stud for three seasons until 2006.
Falbrav didn’t serve big books by Arrowfield standards and, as a result, has been represented by just 50 starters so far from his first two crops. He has sired 20 individual winners headed by the Group 2 winners Fravashi (QTC Sires’ Produce St & MRC Autumn St) and Brava Fortune (Karraktta Plate).
