Famous Roman will be set for the G1 Railway Stakes after he scored a thrilling last stride win in the Listed Northerly Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. The Danetime gelding nosed out proven G1 performer Megatic in a thrilling finish. Race favourite Colour Correct was another nose back in third place.
Famous Roman (Danetime) is a new addition to Jim Taylor’s stable and he put the writing on the wall for an early win with an eye-catching second to stablemate Shock Value in the Listed Birthday Stakes earlier this month.
“I lost Hay List so to pick up a horse like this is a bit of a bonus,” Taylor said. “The Railway is our goal and a Group 1 win could make a sire of him.”
Bred by Graham and Christine Daws of Dawson Stud, Famous Roman was originally sold by them at the 2006 Perth Magic Millions for $75,000. He was pin-hooked for $121,000 later that year at the 2YO Horses in Training Sale.
Dawson Stud will offer a Bletchley Park half-brother to Famous Roman at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions. Their dam Famous Friend has also foaled Malaysian Listed winner Power For Glory (Danewin) and South African stakes performer Majestic Legend (Royal Academy).
Famous Friend (Marooned) won a Pinjarra maiden in 27 starts and she is a half-sister to G3 Strickland Stakes winner Timeless Action (Serheed).
