Falvelon is homing in on his biggest pay-day as a sire in the New Year and he can sign off 2009 with a winner when Fangles starts in the Forbes Chatham Insurance Hcp at Sunshine Coast this afternoon (Race 5 at 2.48 pm AEST).
Falvelon gelding Extreme Mover, a Rosehill winner for Gai Waterhouse on December 12, is one of the fancies for the $2 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic on January 9. He can make amends for the Waterhouse trained Falvelon filly She’s Meaner who was pipped at the post by Augusta Proud in the 2008 Magic Millions Classic.
Fangles (5g Falvelon – Speranto by Esperanto) came close to a feature win of his own when runner-up to Hairy in the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick 12 months ago. He hasn’t won since saluting at Doomben in November 2008 but has been mixing with gallopers a class above the sprinters he meets at Sunshine Coast today.
Falvelon was a Group 1 winner in Australian and Hong Kong and he has sired 115 winners at a 52% strike rate. He retired to Glenlogan Park a year after Show A Heart and, to a large extent, has lived in the latter’s shadow at stud.
Fangles is the sixth winner for Speranto who was pensioned last year. She won at Doomben and her half-brother Dashing Vagabond (Amun’Ra) won 18 races including the Listed Ascot Hcp at Eagle Farm. Her previous winners were by St Jude, St Covet, Snippets, Sequalo and Legal Opinion.
