Fastnet Rock filly Planet Rock is expected to give a bold showing at her home track in the Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton on Saturday.
Planet Rock (3f Fastnet Rock – Akris by Zabeel) looked all class when winning at Ellerslie second time out in January. She then finished within a length of Fort Lincoln (Charge Forward) when third in the LR Karaka Million.
Trainer Peter Williams believes Planet Rock will be forward enough to see her right in the finish of the first leg of the NZ Bloodstock 3YO Fillies Series. “She’s had a couple of easy trials and will improve with the run,” Williams said. “She’s been in season lately and has had a few little issues but nothing major.”
One concern is an ominous weather forecast for Saturday. “We want to get this first run out of the way to get a good idea of where we stand with her,” Williams added. “But I won’t be running her on a heavy track, that’s for sure.”
Williams rates Classy Fashion (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Elusive Red (Elusive City) as the toughest to beat. “But if Planet Rock is anywhere near her best form she should run a big race. She’s worked well since her last trial on September 6.”
Planet Rock is from a winning half-sister to Gorky Park (Montjeu). He was a Listed winner of the VRC Andrew Ramsden Stakes and Geelong Classic.
