Fazza lands Feilding Cup for Lynds

Jeff Lynds has endured a frustrating spring in Melbourne but there was satisfaction on the home front when his veteran gelding Fazza won the LR Feilding Cup on Saturday.

Fazza (9g I Conquer – Sapele by Gay Apollo) has now won 9 races including the 2009 Fielding Cup.

The win would have boosted the Awapuni trainer’s spirits after he was forced to withdraw stable star Wall Street (Montjeu) from the G1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington.

Lynds was also in the doldrums after his stayer Booming (Don Eduardo) disappointed in the Lexus Handicap at Flemington.

Fazza (NZ) settled at the tail of the field on Saturday before delivering a strong finishing burst.  “He’s just a really nice horse and cruises along and does what you ask,” successful rider Buddy Lammas said.  “I didn’t think that I would get that far back but we got a lovely sit and he came home really well.”

Fazza has been nominated for the upcoming G2 Counties Cup.  He is the second stakes winner for I Conquer (Zabeel) who is a brother to G1 AJC Derby winner and successful sire Don Eduardo.  His initial black-type galloper was LR Ballarat Cup winner My Bentley.

Fazza is from the family of the G1 Fourex Cup winner Eye Of The Sky (Long Row).
